A Historic Moment: The Grand Opening of the Statesville Historical Collection

Last Updated 1/12/2025

On January 12th, 2025, the doors of the new Statesville Historical Collection officially opened, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in our mission to preserve, protect, and share the stories of our community’s rich past. Located in the heart of Downtown Statesville at 117 S. Center Street, our new home reflects both growth and renewed purpose. We are thrilled to welcome visitors and locals alike into a space where history comes alive.

A Celebration Rooted in Community

Our grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony was a moment filled with pride and joy, made all the more special by the incredible community that gathered to share it with us. From dedicated supporters and passionate volunteers to local leaders and curious visitors, the event brought together people who believe in the importance of preserving Statesville’s heritage.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to be part of this historic day. Your presence and enthusiasm embody the spirit of Statesville and its deep connection to our collective past. Seeing so many faces, young and old, come together to celebrate reminds us why we do what we do: to ensure that the stories of this town live on for generations to come.

The symbolic cutting of the ribbon was a powerful moment, signifying not only a fresh start for our collection but also the strength of community support that has made it possible. Cheers, applause, and smiles filled the room as the ribbon fell, and with it, a new chapter of exploration and discovery began.

A New Space, A New Experience

Step inside the new Statesville Historical Collection, and you’ll immediately feel the connection between past and present. Thoughtfully curated exhibits and artifacts tell the tales of Statesville’s history, from its earliest roots to the modern-day. Photographs, memorabilia, and interactive displays invite guests to not only learn but engage with the legacy that shaped our town.

The Statesville Historical Collection has many new and improved exhibits. A few notable exhibits include: A reconstruction of the Woolworth’s lunch counter where a monumental sit-in happened, a Lionel train collection that pays homage to the old Statesville Depot, and a hot air balloon selfie station.

Additionally, the collection features thousands of photographs, advertisements, and other artifacts.

Gratitude That Runs Deep

This grand opening would not have been possible without the dedication, hard work, and passion of so many individuals and organizations. To our volunteers who have given countless hours of their time, to our supporters who believed in our vision, and to everyone who contributed their talents and resources — thank you. Your unwavering commitment to preserving Statesville’s heritage is the foundation upon which we build.

A special thank you to every community member who showed up to celebrate with us. Your energy and encouragement made this day truly unforgettable. We are honored to serve as caretakers of Statesville’s stories, and your continued support inspires us to keep growing, learning, and sharing.
